RUMOR: Samsung could be the first to launch a rollable phone

Samsung Rollable Phone

This week was under the sign of mobile phones , after the presentation of Oppo X 2021 at Inno Day 2020. That is still just a concept / prototype and we have until a commercial launch. It seems that Samsung would be ready to face the competitors by launching such rollable phone first .

We knew that LG also had such a project, seeing its patents and was the favorite to debut on the market with this type of product, after already making several rolling TVs. Judging by the reactions of the public and the press to the presentation of Oppo X 2021 , which expands its diagonal from 6.7 to 7.4 inches, I would say that the world is ready for this format. LG had also offered a teaser for an extensible phone, part of the Explorer Project series, which has included the LG Wing so far.

If LG was expected to present its rolling stock in March 2021, well more recently the debut was postponed until May. A South Korean source writes that the “motorized” section of the phone has problems and there are also problems with suppliers. On the other hand, there were reports that a Samsung director, Lee Jae-Yong, was seen with a prototype of a recent rolling phone. We still don’t know much about that device, except that it will expand its diagonal from 6+ inches to 8+ inches.

The Ice Universe rumor is the one that propagated the theory that Samsung will surpass its rivals, launching a foldable phone first. That would arrive in the first half of 2021. The same source believes that we are far from mainstream though, and foldable phones will remain in vogue. 2021 will be a year of tests and experiments for rolling stock. In 2022, Apple will join the frenzy, but it remains to be seen in which camp: foldable or rollable.
