OnePlus has broken any record in the number of phones launched in 2020, taking out no less than half a dozen handsets. We have OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, OnePlus Nord and OnePlus 8T, but also Nord N10 and N100. Perhaps the most surprising was the company’s entry into the budget area, with the N10 and N100 models. The purists sniffed, saying “OnePlus is losing its identity” and “it looks like Carl Pei is gone . ” Finally, let’s go over, we have to test OnePlus Nord N10 5G , which costs $ 339 on the OnePlus website.
Available only in the Midnight Ice color variant , the phone was announced at the end of October, along with the 4G N100 model. You can look at the Nord N10 5G as a OnePlus Nord Lite. In the box are the 30W charger , USB-C cable, SIM key and manual. The body is made of plastic and the back catches the light like Honor 8X and Honor 9. It’s a sexy look, but at the first touch of the back and buttons you feel that you have passed a lower level of construction than what OnePlus usually offers .
However, it is a very comfortable phone to handle, tight, the back does not attract too many fingerprints and is easy to use with one hand. The buttons are a bit plastic and noisy, as sometimes happens in the Galaxy A series. OnePlus Nord N10 5G measures 9 mm in waist and 190 grams, but these grams really do not feel. It seems about 20 grams lighter. The screen is a 6.49-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz . It has 8 nm Snapdragon 690 5G processor , octa core CPU still new on the market.
It comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage , but it also has a microSD slot, something you don’t see every day on a OnePlus. The 4300 mAh battery is charged at 30W, and the phone also has an audio jack and the good news is that it doesn’t sacrifice stereo speakers either . The fingerprint reader is in the back, which is comically “a shame” and a “low end phone” for a more cynical buyer. The selfie camera is 16 MP and is cropped in the screen in the upper left corner. The cutout is small, as we saw on the Huawei P40 Lite, let’s say.
We also have LED flash and 4K filming . If you quickly count the options in the camera interface, the feeling is that you receive more than on OnePlus Nord, like the OnePlus 8T, or they are more scattered in the UI … The phone also has 4G and 5G support , dual band WiFi, USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.1, dual band GPS and NFC. A curiosity is the fact that the phone arrived with Android 10 and OxygenOS 10.5 and will only receive Android 11 and so on, without Android 12 in the future. At least that’s the situation now, but how much OnePlus is set to feedback could change.
I can honestly tell you that seeing all the comments on YouTube about the unboxing of the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, I’m starting to feel guilty that I called it cheap. Moto G 5G Plus is about 200 lei cheaper and offers a similar package of features, even a more powerful CPU. Huawei P40 Lite 5G is about 100 euros cheaper and has a much more powerful CPU.
We’ll have to find an exact measure of the compromises made by OnePlus before judging what “cheap” still means today. Personally, I think the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite is the best phone in this segment. We return with review and conclusions. I think a fair price for this phone would have been $ 300 though.
